Safari^® Dawn South African Phlox Jamesbrittenia hybrid

I submitted a review a review several weeks ago with two stars and detailed my experience with this plant and since then they have all died. So I am giving Safari Dawn 1 star. I see the plant being promoted by influencers on you tube ie. Garden Answer, and Creekside Nursery. I would like to see how the plants preformed for them. Laura from Garden Answer even said on one of her uploads that Proven Winner's worked on this plant for 30 years before releasing it this year. After 30 years I would have expected more. I went back to nursery where I purchased and asked what they thought about the plant. They admitted it struggled and they lost many as well. No refund but at least I felt as it was not my handling of the plants.

I finally found some at a local garden center and put in my hayrack planter. They are doing awesome and seemed to be thriving in their nursery pots.... rooted just fine. Gave it a 4 only because I've only had it a week. It's darling.

I had the same experience as the review above. Very weak root system and vines are very weak and stringy. I bought six plants @ $8.99 a piece through @provenwinners direct and all but one stringy vine are dead. They arrived stringy and don’t thrive at all. I went to my local nursery and the Safari Dawn looked weak and stringy there too. Would not buy again until there is improvement in the plant. Disappointed.

This has been a difficult plant. The root system is weak and has trouble supporting the top growth on the plant. When I purchased the plant it was being grown in commercial greenhouse with optimal conditions. Given those conditions the plant has some curling at tips and looked thirsty. I figured I would buy a tray of 10 take home and water. After watering, I placed plants still in their PW cans in filtered sun to harden off and get used to the new environment. I planted in my window boxes and that's when I noticed the plants have very minimal rooting. Everything else i planted is doing fantastic but sadly not these safari dawn plants. It doesn't matter what I do for the plants, they struggle to draw up enough moisture on sunny days and if we have a cool humid day the plants just barely recover. I decided to pull from boxes and plant separately so they don't burn out and die. I added some mycorrhizae to new potting mix and I will increase phosphate levels to see if I can build a better root system to support the plants. Hopefully they respond and I will be pleased with the plants. Hoping to read other reviews to see if my plants are out of the norm for gardeners and get better understanding. The plants are not inexpensive and I am willing to pay for the Proven Winner's brand and swear by most of their plants. I have been using supertunias since mid 90's and I am generally very impressed. This is my first review because honestly it is disappointing.
