    Features

Superbena verbenas are very vigorous with strongly trailing habits as a trailing verbena plant. They need relatively long days to bloom and are difficult to produce in small container sizes. They have very large flowers and umbels with long blooming verbena flowers. They are great in landscapes and containers as a heat tolerant trailing annual. In landscapes, they are best used at the front of beds and they function as spillers in combination planters as a verbena for hanging baskets. If you are looking for a colorful annual ground cover, Superbena is a great choice.

    Maintenance Notes:

Superbena® verbena plants are easy to grow and will flower non-stop from planting to frost if simple maintenance tasks are performed. Growing Superbena in full sun to part sun is important for their strong growth and bloom performance. They do not require deadheading, meaning the removal of spent flowers, to stay in bloom all season.

These heat tolerant annuals typically require a bit less water and feeding than many kinds of flowering annuals. If your garden soil is very heavy and tends to stay soggy for a while after it rains, plant your Superbena verbena in a container instead of in the ground. Let the soil dry out a little bit between waterings, but do not let the plants wilt severely before watering again.

Superbena performs best when fed with Proven Winners plant foods. At planting time, in containers and landscapes, mix Proven Winners Premium Continuous Release Plant Food into the soil, following the rates specified on the packaging. In containers, reapply halfway through the growing season. In the ground, a single application in spring is typically sufficient.

Additionally, Superbena verbena should be fed with Proven Winners Premium Water Soluble Plant Food every ten days to two weeks according to the rates specified on the packaging.

Superbena does not require much trimming to keep it looking great all season. If you’d like your plants to have a fuller, bushier shape, trim up to 20% off the ends of the stems midseason. Follow up by feeding them with water soluble plant food to promote fresh new growth and blooms.

    • As an average gardner, this plant has really exceeded my expectations. It really started to thrive about 2 wks after transplanting. It has been little to no maintenance despite our above average hot dry weather with intermittent watering. The colors are very bright and I love how it mounds and spills over the flower bed edges. My only regret is only planting two plants. Recently (early August) tho it has stopped blooming but foliage looks healthy and thick. Can anyone recommend how to best encourage more blooms? I am definitely planting more of these next season!

    • When I bought them at Fred Meyer in Spokane WA, a few years ago, I thought $4 was a lot to pay for annuals in 4" pots, but they were the best investment in plants I ever made. Compliments poured in from friends, neighbors and strangers. Thank you!
