  • Cut back hydrangea paniculata now by at least a third or even a half, including removing twiggy side growth.
  • All Rockin salvias are now 6 to 8 inches tall so good to go on removing old dried canes.
  • Luminary Phlox paniculata are 3 inches tall now remove old dried bloom stalks.
  • Wait to prune re-blooming hydrangeas until you see what Mother Nature has given you from the standpoint of frozen tips.

ABOUT NORMAN WINTER
Norman Winter is a southern gardening specialist who has been evaluating plants in Texas, Mississippi, and Coastal Georgia gardens for the last three decades. He has recently retired as the Director of the University of Georgia’s Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens in Savannah and was previously an extension horticulturist and coordinator for the Mississippi Medallion Award trial program.
