Hummingbirds love this plant. I buy it every year and keep it in a 20 inch planter on my deck to view the hummingbirds. My neighbors all get it now too on my recommendation.

This plant is a pollinator attracting machine, beloved by pollinators of many types.
Maintenance Notes:This is a wonderful annual Salvia (except in frost free zones, where it is perennial) compact and richly colored it is easy and trouble free. It is sterile so it will not set seed and that means it will just bloom, and bloom and bloom all season without stopping.
You can easily trim to keep the shape or size where you want it, and it will branch out and become even thicker and more full of flowers.
Regular watering and fertilizing will keep the plant at maximum color and growth but it is amazingly tough and once established in a pot of the garden will tolerate lower levels of food and water. However, severe drought will cause lower leaves to drop and if this happens give it a quick haircut removing the upper 1/3 of growth and once it back to normal watering it will fill back in.

WOW is this plant amazing. I planted one 4in plant in the ground 5 YEARS ago... I hack it back to about 6in every spring and again mid-summer and it's enormous, probably 4ft x 4ft at this point. Granted, I live in the burbs of Los Angeles so I doubt it would survive a winter elsewhere, but man is this plant awesome. Blooms non-stop, pollinators love it, I love it- Best $5 I've ever spent

This particular salvia seems to be much more cold hardy than given credit for. I’m in NC, zone 7b and I’ve had two or three seasons of my deep purple salvia coming back bigger each year. I just split it this year to spread around the garden. It does die back to the ground but comes back reliably.

I love this plant! But more importantly, the pollinators love it, too. The hummingbirds are on it nonstop. My only regret, I only planted one this year. My new favorite plant!

I planted this in a large (22") terra cotta pot at my entrance last spring with two different colors of Superbells. It was in bloom non-stop through the winter (Northern CA). We had a mild frost that burned the leaves so I sheared it down to the soil and within a month and a half, it had sprouted back up and is now in full bloom again - and I haven't even fertilized it yet. A GREAT plant that provides interest almost year-round.
