Professional Growing Information We love this plant for its color and fullness. However, despite it being in full sun and regular drip irrigation and drainage it has bad powdery mildew every year. Each year it grows back full and beautiful but just after it starts blooming the mildew starts. This is our third summer with it.

Monarda is the natural source of the antiseptic Thymol, the primary active ingredient in some kinds of mouthwash.
Monarda didyma has a long his-tory of being used by some tribes of Native Americans as a medicinal plant to cure skin infections, minor wounds and even excessive cases of gas.

I ordered this plant in Sept. 2023. It arrived in a timely manner and in good condition, and after hardening off, transplanted well into a pot. It is growing well, sending out new shoots. It is susceptible to powdery mildew, and I constantly spray with neem oil.

Was disappointed that this monarda developed severe powdery mildew a week after I bought it, even though I planted it in full sun and it was on drip irrigation. I cut it back and it died. Unfortunately, I didn’t even get to see it bloom.

Bloomed all summer long and the blooms stayed bright and intact until the frost. I can't begin to describe the intoxicating smell of this plant I have to use all my will-power to not take a sniff every time I walk past it. The bees loved it almost as much as me.
