I have 4 of them and they started to die out after about 7yrs. Now they are ugly and I'm going to replace them with something that last longer. No way do these last 40yrs.

Wonderful texture and a narrow form combine in a tough, adaptable plant.
A great landscape plant, Fine Line buckthorn combines the feathery foliage of 'Asplenifolia' with the narrow upright habit of 'Columnaris.' Use Fine Line in narrow hedgerows for privacy, as an accent plant, or even in a patio container. It's a great vertical accent for the perennial garden, and the narrow habit is perfect for framing entrances. This is an extremely useful, architectural plant for the home or commercial landscape. This cultivar produces very few fruit, and among those, only 2% are viable. Fine Line Rhamnus is an environmentally friendly replacement for weedy, older varieties.

Good in perennial and shrub borders. Can be used to frame doors and pathways.
Maintenance Notes:Very adaptable, prefers well-drained soil. No pruning is usually required, but may be pruned in late fall to remove dead or broken branches. Though it tolerates dry conditions once established, it looks and performs best with average moisture. If desired, fertilize in early spring with a granular rose or garden fertilizer.
Fine stems with textured foliage make a nice filler for bouquets and arrangements.

Loved this plant the first year. Lovely yellow fall color and nice growth habit. Year two it developed berries (I thought it was sterile) and some sort of fungus that looked like Cheetos. I called PW and they said there was nothing they could do. Bummer because the plants were expensive. I left it in the ground and it still had the fungus this year, but not quite as bad. Really disappointed. I see it’s now ‘new and improved’. Not sure what that means.

This is a really beautiful plant and I was very excited about how it would grow into a big lovely bushy thing. Unfortunately the deer at my bushes down to nothing this fall. I hope they are able to come back. Great bushy plant but not deer proof!

Great around a patio. No deer damage for us. They prefer our other plants.

This is a great plant and does well. Your comment however about this being deer resistant is not true. The deer eat this every spring as soon as new growth starts. They eat so much of it one of my plants is very stunted. They eat it every year- I have had them about 4 years now.
