We developed this easy-to-grow, reliable panicle hydrangea in Michigan, selecting it for its huge, full flower heads and sturdy, strong stems. Blooms emerge creamy-white and age to a vivid red for lots of summer color. Cut the branches back by about one-third their total length. This plant tolerates a wide range of conditions, but does not grow well in soggy soil. Plant in full sun in zones 3-7; afternoon shade is preferable in warmer areas. A good 2-3" (5-7.6 cm) layer of shredded bark mulch over the roots is very beneficial.
If desired, fertilize in early spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants, like a rose fertilizer.

I planted this hydrangea and it never did anything. It never came back after the first spring. I’m in zone 3.

I planted 6 of these last fall in front my yard and along the road, they are all doing so well, fast grow, beautiful color ! love love love!

I planted this last summer by the entrance of our home. It was a small plant and there were several blooms on it during the summer. It did not grow as quickly as my other hydrangeas but i am more disappointed in the color. The blooms did not turn a deep pomegranate colour like in the pictures. They pinked up a little and turned brown. I will give it one more season to grow but I am already thinking about what I could replace this shrub with. Hopefully next growing season is better.

I'll be honest and say I don't remember for certain whether I bought my Firelight hydrangea here or somewhere else, but I can vouch for the color and beauty of them. I'm in my third year, just waiting for it to establish before I do much pruning, but I can already see the potential to turn mine into a magnificent red hydrangea tree. The color really is spectacular once it matures. Don't be discouraged if it looks a little less vivid the first couple years after it's planted. I'm in year #3, and this year it has really turned a rich red. Hello, I planted my firelight hydrangea on the North side of my house and it I think it's getting too much shade because the blooms are going from white to chartreuse green instead. Any ideas? Iam in zone 4-5.

My first one was delivered nearly dead BUT it was a vendor's fault, not Proven Winners. I decided to plant it anyway not expecting it to survive and surprised to see it recover so quickly and survived the winter. We were given an awesome display of flowers this summer and I'm confident it will look much better next year after pruning. I love this so much that I bought another one through Proven Winners online (very healthy looking!) and it isn't even the second week and two strong shoots are coming up like a firecracker shooting up the sky and surely to explode to a creamy panicle of flowers!
