Professional Growing Information I purchased 2 of these from Proven Winners website last summer. They came beautifully packaged and cared for directly from the grower. They were quite small but reasonably sized for the price. I put them in the ground immediately even though it was later in the summer. They did double in size but no flowers the first year. I was excited to see them suddenly sprout in early June. They are still smaller than their maximum about 3.5 feet tall and a little sparse. I think they need another year or two to fill out. But when they started blooming this year it was just glorious. Huge dark red blooms as advertised and full of buds even though the shrub is still small. I can’t wait for them to reach their full size. I have now ordered 2 French Vanilla hibiscus from PW to compliment the Holy Grail. I love being able to buy direct from PW as I find it difficult to find the exact things I want from local nurseries.

Maintenance Notes:Hibiscus love the sun and need moist, well-drained soil. Keeping these plants watered will result in larger flowers and lush foliage. Deadheading will improve the appearance of the plant, but is not necessary for continued bloom. It is best to plant Hibiscus in the garden before the heat of the summer arrives, and should be heavily mulched the first winter. In spring, cut back any remaining stems before new growth appears. Do not trim back in fall. A strong pair of loppers or a saw will be necessary to cut this plant back. Be advised that Hibiscus is always one of the last perennials to emerge in spring. Be patient, even if you think it is dead, it most likely isn't. Its vigorous growth rate more than makes up for this late start, however. Japanese beetles find these plants especially delicious.

I have 2 and wish I bought more as my sursery didn’t carry any this year… huge dinner plate sized blooms and plant has grown greatly in its 2nd summer even after the freak 3 day Texas snow storm. I didn’t do anything to protect it but it came back with gusto. Going to redo all my front flower beds to have these big beauties.

I've purchased a number of plants from PW and this by far is the star! I have it in full sun and there are already so many buds on it, that it will certainly take center stage again this summer. It's already grown to 36 inches since last year. As the others have mentioned, the dark leaves make a striking contrast with the beautiful red flowers. Haven't seen it in any stores in this area. Some of my online purchases were so so, but this is a winner!

I planted mine in containers early this summer. They grew and performed well on my deck all summer. The blooms were amazing and 8-9 inches wide! They are rather 2 dimensional and blooms parallel to your view are not as noticeable. I was able to turn the containers to face the deck when I was removing the spent flowers. When I wasn’t able to pick up the blooms they got a little messy. The blooms have now finished and the plants are losing leaves. Now I notice that they are infected with white flies. We will probably have our first frost later this week. What is the best method / time to treat these plants for white flies? Will they survive over winter? Thanks

This plant is perfectly named. It is definitely the holy grail of hibiscus! Not only are the flowers themselves absolutely stunning, the leaves are equally striking. The flowers are a rich, deep red, and the leaves are a beautiful purple/dark green color - they complement each other so well! There have been at least 2-3 blooms a day since I planted it 2 weeks ago in mid-late August. It's definitely the show-stopper in my garden. I'll be on the lookout for more at my favorite nursery for sure!

First year gardener and this has outperformed everything! Definitely a show stopper! Absolutely beautiful. So many buds and the flowers are bigger than my head. Just curious if it produces seed pods? They start to turn tan colored then fall off.

I was a little worried when I rec'd this plant, I ordered 2 & one of them was a little messed up in the shipping. I decided to plant it anyways. Boy am I glad I did. It has grown so big & I have lots of buds on it. Can't wait for them to bloom!!! So pleased with it that I just ordered 2 more.
