In California, Lantanas are standard and average parking lot plants that I honestly will not utilize in my garden. Very hardy, reliable, thrives despite of neglect, heat and drought tolerant, etc. So if you're telling me that Lantanas are good plants, I'll agree, but I'm not the type to invest in a plant that I can find at my local Target, Walmart, Wendy's, etc. parking lot. It's like an overplayed song that automatically plays as part of your "recommended music" on a randomized playlist you may be interested in, but music that you skip over regardless of your mood. Generally, in California, homeowners buy Lantanas as space-fillers. But I gotta hand it to this cultivar. Caught my eye at a local Green Acres nursery, and immediately placed it on my cart. I'm the type to add things to my cart and remove/add plants as I repeatedly make my way through the aisles, but my little quart plant never left my side. I've since potted it up at a ceramic planter and all it does is perform with its wonderful bicolor blooms. A strong yellow that is contrasted by vivd dark purples. And the plant responds well to my habit of weekly fertilization, so it's an encouraging plant that can survive neglect, but will reward you for its care. It looks extremely well when paired with Dichondra 'Silver Falls'.

Maintenance Notes:If you are looking for a tough plant it's hard to beat lantana. Lantana are heat tolerant, use little to no supplemental water in the landscape, will tolerate less than ideal soils and usually don't need to be deadheaded. If you are looking for a plant that will thrive on neglect, lantana is the champ. Lantana come in many shapes, sizes and habits. Check size and habit information for the specific variety you are choosing to make sure it fits your needs. Lantana can be trimmed back at anytime to shape or to promote increased branching.
In many parts of the US and Canada lantana function as an annual. In reality they are a tender perennial, in warm winter climates they become flowering shrubs.
If you live in an area where Lantana is perennial they are essentially trouble free, they can be pruned at any time of year and usually benefit with a harder shape-up pruning in early spring after last frost date. Midsummer fertilization can help overcome any slow down in growth during the dog days of summer and help bring even more flowers.
According to the Humane Society of America Lantana leaves can be toxic to pets. This means that the plants are generally identified as having the capability for producing a toxic reaction.
Lantana seed set varies considerably. If you see a lot of berries developing you may want to deadhead the plants to help with continuous blooming. If there is low berry set, deadheading shouldn't be necessary for continuous bloom. Some varieties are self-cleaning.
An application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular fertilization of plants in pots will help ensure the best possible performance.

This plant is wonderful. It provides color all summer and is more forgiving of hot dry conditions and doesn't wilt as fast as other plants. I would buy it again for my front porch containers.

I love the colors on this plant! Beautiful & bold without being overbearing. Had it in a location that wasn't sunny enough; it did okay, but rarely bloomed. I moved it, and the blossoms still haven't stopped in mid October! Will plant this again.
